Self-explanitory title. CarMax wheelin' and dealin' for a warranty + '04 Mazdaspeed Miata with 52k on the clock. Currently have a 2012 Mazdaspeed3 with <30k on the clock.
Had an NA Miata, would love another Miata. But is it worth it?
What would you do, oppo?

do you have kids or hobbies that require you to move things? If not, then the answer is obvious.

You know what the answer is, so why did you ask the question?

I'm a card-carrying Miata nut, own the calculus equals Miata shirt because the answer is ALWAYS Miata, etc...
Which is why there has to be a reason not to do it that I've not thought of.

I think this post needs to be retitled.

Do I have kids, or any other need to haul cargo? If the answer is yes, reconsider or get the MSM+ something else.
If no, hell yes you should get the MSM.

AND IT'S RED! I'd be surprised if it lasts another day.

Yes because Miata + Choo Choo noises will always win.

Straight up trade? Hell no. The MS3 should be worth around twice as much as the MSM, depending on condition of each. And personally I wouldn't pay more for a MSM than a similar year/condition S2000.

Yeah, that's the biggest thing against it right now - they're listing it at $16k for an '04.

If you plan on being competitive at autocross, no.

That's way too much.
Realistically, that's probably a 12-13k car from a dealer. I paid 16 when I bought my MSM in 08. I got 12 for it when it was totaled last year, and that's about what they were going for, at that time.

And there's the reason I was looking for. #OppoWin

What you need to do is get them to do a reasonable price for the MSM, trade in the MS3, and then take the cash and mod the hell out of the Miata.
The answer is Miata.

Not a straight trade, but the MSM is a hoot to drive. Look into its shortcomings though. The lack of power and piss-poor engine management are killers that need to be remedied. They are fairly expensive problems to fix.
I had a 2005 MSM. Excellent chassis, but absolute shit power band. I sold it before I could get too far into the power train. I was never satisfied with it.

I've posted on here the flaws of the MSM a couple times now. I'd advise against.
